    Description

Handsome fold-out 1953 Mobilgas road map of Missouri and neighboring states, printed more than 67 years ago.
The map opens to 18" x 29", and has great detail on old highway alignments, including U.S. Route 66, with cartography by Rand McNally.
The map of Missouri is on one side, with inset plans of St. Louis and Kansas City.
On the other side there are inset plans of Jefferson City, Joplin, Hannibal, St. Joseph, Sedalia, and Springfield, along with a road map of the central U.S. between Minneapolis and Dallas.
The map was published by the Socony-Vacuum Oil Company in 1953 to promote its flying-red-horse Mobilgas, and it is dated by the code number in the lower margin: 3-513605V-2. Population data is from the 1950 census.
