LUBRICATION SERVICE INFORMATION
Figures and numerals printed in italics and enclosed in parenthesis, as (D-1), refer to illus-
trations and descriptions appearing on the Mobilubrication Disc Chart which are applicable
to 1957 construction.
FRONT SUSPENSION: Movement of each lower control arm is controlled by a torsion bar, rather than a coil spring. The torsion
bar is hex-shaped at each end. The front end is anchored in the lower control arm while the rear end is anchored in the frame
side rail. Movement of the lower control arm tends to twist the torsion bar. Front car height can be changed by adjusting,
twisting, the torsion bar at its rear end. The steering knuckle is mounted on ball joints in the upper and lower control arms and
are the only points in the front suspension requiring lubrication, a total of four points.
TRANSMISSION (3 SPEED CONVENTIONAL) (D-1): Standard C75-1 . Check lubricant level every 1000 miles. Add lubricant as
required. Drain, flush'and refill every 10,000 miles. Use a good grade of flushing oil. Never steam clean or use kerosine or
solvents to flush housing.
Filler Opening and Level Gauge: Filler hole in side of housing.
Drain: One plug on right side at bottom of housing.
TORQUEFLITE TRANSMISSION (D-5): Optional on C75-1. Standard on others. Check fluid level every 1000 miles. To make
this check, apply the hand brake and push the "N" (Neutral) selector button. Idle the engine for a few minutes and then push
selector buttons through all ranges and back to "N" position. Dipstick and filler hole on right side are reached from under
hood. Remove all dirt from around dipstick. If engine and transmission gre hot, after car has been driven for several miles, the
fluid level should be between the "F" mark and 1/2" above the "L" mark on the dipstick. Maintain level with Mobilfluid 200.
Drain transmission every 20,000 miles. See Mobilubrication Bulletin "Correct Lubrication of Automatic and Semi-Automatic
Transmissions" for complete and approved instructions.

stances. The oil should be 1/2" above top of filter in the reservoir. Maintain fluid at its indicated level with Mobilfluid 200.
Replace cover. Fluid from reservoir also lubricates steering gear.
