(3) Add 1 quart when replacing oil filter.
(4) Add 1 quart when equipped with heater. When car is equipped with air conditioning, use permanent-type anti-freeze, Mobil
Permazone, all year. In summer the system should be protected down to +15°F. Drain the cooling system at least once a
year, preferably in the spring. Always use at least 20% of the permanent-type anti-freeze to insure adequate protection
aga inst corrosion.

To facilitate uniformly satisfactory Mobilubrication, a single mileage has been adopted for similar units operating under
the same conditions on all cars. The recommended frequencies shown are 1000, 5000, 10.000, 15,000 and 20,000 miles.
These frequencies may sometimes vary from those shown in instruction books of various car manufacturers.

LUBRICATION SERVICE INFORMATION
Figures and numerals printed in italics and enclosed in parenthesis, as (D.1), refer
to lllustrations and descriptions appearing on the Mobilubrication Disc Chart which
are applicable to 1960 construction.
FRONT SUSPENSION: - Movement of each lower control grm is controlled by a torsion bar, rather than a coll spr ing. The
torsion bar is hex-shaped at each end. The front end is anchored in the lower control arm while the rear is anchored in the
eng ine rear support cross member. Movement of the lower control arm tends to twist the torsion bar. Front car height can be
changed by adjusting, twisting, the torsion bar at its rear end. The steering knuckle is mounted on ball Joints in the upper
and lower control arms and are the only points in the front suspension requiring lubrication, a total of four points.
TRANSMISSION, 3 SPEED CONVENTIONAL (D-1) Standard on Fireflite. Check level e very 1,000 miles. Add 1 ubricant as
required. Drain and refill every 10,000 miles.
Filler Opening and Level Gauge: Filler hole in side of housing.
Drain: Plug at bottom of housing.
POWERFLITE TRANSMSSION (D-5) - Optional on Fireflite. TORQUEFLITE TRANSMISSION (D-5) - Optional on Fireflite.
Standard on Adventurer. Check fluid level every 1000 miles. To make this check, apply the hand brake and push the "N"
(Neutral) selector button. Idle the engine for a few minutes gnd then punh selector buttons through all ranges and back to "N"
position. Dipstick and filler hole on right side are regched from under hood. Remove all dirt from around dipstick. The fluid
level should be at the "F" mark on slightly below, but ne ver above the F" mark when the engine is at its normal warm con-
dition. If it is necessary to check the fluid level when the transmission is cold, the fluid level should be at, or slightly below
the "L" or the "Add One Pint" mark. Maintain level with Mobilfluid 200. Drain transmission every 10,000 miles or more fre-
quently when the car is driven under any of the following conditions: Police car or taxicab operation; Frequent towing of
trailers; Frequent hea vy traffic in hot weather; Continuous operation at higher than normal loading.
See Mobil ubrication Bulletin "Correct Lubrication of Automatic and Semi-Automatic Transminsions" for complete
and approved instructions.
REAR AXLE: (D-6) (Hypoid Gears) - Clean dirt from around filler hole, remove filler plug and check lubricant level every
1000 miles. Add lubricant as required to mainta in level between bottom of filler plug and 1/2" below. Drain and refill at
least every 10,000 miles.
Sure-Grip limited slip differential optional on all models and can be identified by letter "S" stamped directly after
the stamped ratio on the lower side of the carrier case. After draining, refill with Mobilube GX90.
Filler Opening and Level Gauge: Right side of drive pinion carrier.
Drain: Drain plug in bottom of housing.
POWER STEERING (K-3)- Constant Control optional only with Powerflite or Torqueflite. Check oil level in reservoir at
rear of generator every 1000 miles. Before removing the cap to check the le vel, wipe the outside of the cap so no dirt can
fall into the reservoir. Fluid should be at bottom of filler neck when cold. When hot, the fluid should be half way up the
neck. Do not disturb or replace filter element. Maintain fluid at this level with Mobilfluid 200. Fluid from reservoir also
lubricates steering gear.
SPEEDOMETER: Every 5000 miles remove oil tube with wick from speedometer housing. Saturate wick with Mobiloil
Arctic and replace.
MANIFOLD HEAT CONTROL: Place a few drops of graphited kerosine on each end of shaft every 1,000 miles, when exhaust
manifold is cool, to keep shaft free. If shaft becomes frozen, free it by tapping each end of the shaft 1ightly with a hammer.
Work valve back and forth a few times.
OIL FILTER: (K-1) – Screw on, full flow type filter. Replace complete filter every 5000 miles or more often in dusty terri-
tories and under cold weather operation.
AIR CLEANER: (K-2) – Dry type cleaner is standard. Remove element from its container every 1000 miles and with com-
pressed air gently blow out the dirt. The compressed air nozzle should be held about 1" from the inside screen. Under severe
dust conditions, it may be necessary to clean the element more often. Install new element every 10,000 miles.
CRANKCASE VENTILATOR AIR CLEANER: In oil filler pipe cap. Wash element in Sovasol No. 5 and dry thoro ughly, every
1000 miles or more frequently under severe dust conditions. Oil element with Mobiloil A. Allow excess oil to drain from
element before replacing it.
POWER BRAKES: Optional equipment.
