Description
Here is an excellent example of Roseville Pottery's "Pinecone" accented line introduced in 1935. It has a great Art Deco look with a matte green and cream color scheme, a stepped double pocket sharing a common base, and a pinecone branch with long stylized needles forming the back of the piece. It is #1273-8". This piece is marked 1273 in Roseville's typical orange crayon, under the glaze on the back. Here the 8" refers to the height of the piece. I measure it as 8.5". It is 4" at its widest.
The line was introduced in 1935, with only foil labels on the bottom. This piece has only a foil label, so it can safely be dated to the first year of production. (See photo #10.) It doesn't have either of the other later "Roseville" marks. From 1936-1939, pieces were marked with an incised "Roseville" and shape #. Starting in 1940, pieces have the raised-letter Roseville U.S.A logo and shape #.
Condition: Mint, complete form with no chips, no cracks, no crazing, and no repairs! As made, under the glaze, there is a thin line about 1/2" long along the top edge of the wood branch, where the brown color is missing.(You might see it in the bottom shadowed area in photo #5.) With the foil label and orange crayon number (photo #9), this piece has everything collectors look for.
I will be listing quite a few pieces of Roseville in the coming days, and am happy to combine shipping--just let me know. I start all my listings as true {{detail_product_description}}.99 auctions. Good luck bidding!
