Description
Here is an excellent example of Roseville Pottery's "Pinecone" accented line introduced in 1935. It has a great Art Deco look with a glossy blue that starts light and darkens down the piece, with a cream background around the two pinecone branches. Dark tan interior. Designed with just one pine branch-shaped "handle".It is a globe-shaped vase or bowl, shape #261-6". Here the 6" refers to the depth of the vase. It is 6.5" tall with a 4" rim opening, and is about 7.5" wide.
The line was introduced in 1935, with only foil labels on the bottom. This piece has only a foil label, so it can safely be dated to the first year of production. (See photo #10.) It doesn't have either of the other later "Roseville" marks. From 1936-1939, pieces were marked with an incised "Roseville" and shape #. Starting in 1940, pieces have the raised-letter Roseville U.S.A logo and shape #.
Condition: Mint, with no chips, no cracks, no crazing, and no repairs! As made, there is a very shallow 1/4" dimple in the clay on the body of the bowl. (Photos #6-7) I found one very tiny pinprick glaze pop (see photo #9). Minor hard water residue on interior bottom. (Photo #5).
I will be listing quite a few pieces of Roseville in the coming days, and am happy to combine shipping--just let me know. I start all my listings as true {{detail_product_description}}.99 auctions. Good luck bidding!
