    Description

    From a private collection this is a rare early Socony vacuum oil company, Gargoyle Mobiloil brand motor oil can that was cut and flattened to make a sign. Has been wired into a round can shape.
    Good vintage condition, it has been cut and flattened into a sign and then wired back into a can shape, missing top and bottom but graphics are very good. Has a few scratches, light surface rust in spots and stains. See photos for details.  This is a very early can from either the late 1920s or early 1930s.  It has the US patent registration notice printed under the gargoyle logo. It had a solder seam. This might be a good candidate for a restoration project.
