THIS IS A RARE REGAL CHINA COMPANY HAND PAINTED ALICE COOKIE JAR FROM THE 1951 ALICE IN WONDERLAND TEA SET. THIS WONDERFUL COOKIE JAR HAS “© WALT DISNEY PRODUCTIONS ALICE IN WONDERLAND” INCISED ON THE BOTTOM!
You are bidding on a very hard to find “Alice In Wonderland” Cookie Jar that measures 13 1/4” tall, 8 1/2” wide and about 8” deep. This ceramic cookie jar is sturdy and quite heavy weighing almost 5lbs. It is in excellent condition with no chips, breaks or visible crazing. The hand painted expression of surprise on the face of Alice in Wonderland, along with her beautiful eyes are darling. The airbrushed colors remain bright and vivid with little loss of paint.
There is one visible hairline on the back side of the jar in the ribbon of Alice’s white apron that is difficult to see and does not go through to the inside of the jar. The lid does not fit perfectly on the jar base leaving a few narrow gaps, however, we have resolved this type of a issue in the past by using “museum putty” to fasten the lid and base securely. It will be tough to find another “Alice In Wonderland Cookie Jar” in this good of condition.
The Regal China Company produced this very limited © Walt Disney Productions Alice In Wonderland Cookie Jar in 1951 at the same time when Disney released its Feature Film on July 28th. The Regal Pottery Company was established in 1938 and remained in business for more than 50 years. It was located in Antioch, Illinois. Regal China was known for its high quality, non-porous, china and for the rich colored glazes that they used. Even the earlier pieces of Regal China are seldom found with any crazing.
Regal China only produced this remarkable Alice In Wonderland Set for Disney and not for any other Disney movie or character. This is perhaps the reason why this Regal China Alice In Wonderland Tea Set is considered by many to be the Holy Grail of Disney China! Combine this one-time distribution, with only manufacturing about 100 of these hand made Alice in Wonderland Tea Sets, then add 70 years to the original creation date, and your looking at some very rare pieces!
The Alice In Wonderland Tea Set consists of a Alice Cookie Jar, a White Rabbit Sugar and Creamer, a King of Hearts Water or Juice Jug, a Mad Hatter Teapot, Alice Salt and Pepper Shakers, along with matching Tweedledee and Tweedledum Shakers. Occasionally pieces are found with gold trim.
