VINTAGE 1940s (?) MOBIL OIL & GAS MOBILOIL SOCONY-VACUUM CAR AUTO WAX GLASS JAR

Description

Offered here is a vintage glass jar, with a paper label, and tin screw-on top. The label pictures the "Flying Red Horse" (Pegasus) logo, and reads (in part): "MOBILWAX (HARD)...Made by the Makers of Mobiloil...SOCONY - VACUUM OIL COMPANY...specially prepared to give hard and lasting wax finish for automobiles." I THINK this was made around the 1940's - when metal was being conserved for the war effort, and glass was being substituted for tin containers. ("Socony-Vacuum" operated under that name between 1931 and 1955 - so certainly this is pre-1955.) The jar measures 3 & 1/4 inches tall , and is 3 & 1/4 inches wide. The condition is FAIR to GOOD. The paper label has some soiling and small nicks. There is some rust on the tin top. The jar is partly full of the original wax, which has hardened over the decades. NO chips or cracks in the glass. It displays very nicely, and is guaranteed to be old & original, or your money back.
